Work Package 1 of the “SMART CLIMATE” Project Has Been Completed
The project “SMART CLIMATE – SMART Model for Supporting the Decisions of Operational Units in Greece for the Implementation of High Climate-Resilience Projects (ΕΚΠΑΡ01-0074389)” is being implemented under the “Research – Innovate” action of the Competitiveness 2021–2027 Programme.
The project will develop a model approach for decision support, upon which an Information System (IS) will be developed. The objective is to strengthen the capacity of operational units, namely public-sector organisations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to design and implement actions that enhance the climate resilience of their infrastructure.
The project started in December 2025, and Work Package 1, “Data Collection, State of the Art, Analyses” has recently been successfully completed. Within this framework, challenges, technologies, relevant tools and good practices were collected and systematically organised.
Specifically, the three partners collaborated in a systematic and complementary manner and completed the following activities:
ENERGEIN, the project coordinator, completed the “Framework and Requirements Report”, combining primary research through a questionnaire, a literature review, an investigation of tools and good practices, and an analysis of the external environment using the PESTEL methodology.
The analysis identified critical political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal factors that currently influence the strengthening of climate resilience among public-sector organisations and SMEs. These parameters form the basis for developing the methodology of the project’s Information System.
MES Energy S.A. completed the “Technologies & Tools Report”, conducting a systematic review of methods, technologies, tools and practices that can be utilised to assess and strengthen climate resilience.
Particular emphasis was placed on developing an organised library of methods and practices for assessing climate resilience, as well as a library of performance indicators, which will constitute key elements of the Information System’s knowledge base for decision support.
KINNO INNOVATION INTERMEDIARIES SINGLE-MEMBER P.C. completed the “Report on Methods for Supporting Operational Units”, investigating, through literature and qualitative research, the needs, barriers and maturity levels of public-sector organisations and SMEs.
The results highlighted the need for flexible and user-friendly tools, adapted to the capabilities and priorities of each operational unit.
Work Package 2, “Development of the Specifications of the Decision-Support Model,” has already commenced.
Within this Work Package, the core methodology is being developed for the creation of a comprehensive and practical tool that will effectively support evidence-based decision-making by public-sector organisations and SMEs across Greece regarding interventions to strengthen the climate resilience of their infrastructure.
The Information System will utilise a broad range of data, including resource consumption data, climate data, geometric and technical data, energy audit results, real-time data, data relating to the area of application, as well as information on available funding opportunities.
Stay tuned!
